John Scott has practiced communications law for more than 30 years. He has represented telecom, wireless and media companies before the Federal Communications Commission and state public utilities commissions, as well as before the federal and state courts. Before joining the firm in 2015, he spent 15 years as Vice President and Deputy General Counsel of Verizon Wireless and Verizon Communications, where he led a team of attorneys and staff representing the company on a broad range of communications law matters, including compliance. Mr. Scott previously was a partner (and before that an associate) in the Washington, D.C.-based law firm of Crowell & Moring, where he counseled communications clients and represented them in agency proceedings and transactions, as well as in legislative and litigation matters.
Mr. Scott’s expertise encompasses federal spectrum policy, spectrum auctions, and federal and state regulation of telecom services, including accessibility, antenna and tower siting and zoning, billing, RF radiation, telemarketing, universal service, and 911 requirements. He also has substantial experience negotiating business transactions and securing required regulatory approvals.
