Wireless Communications

Wilkinson Barker Knauer has been involved in nearly every significant regulatory development in wireless communications since the advent of commercial cellular telephone service in the early 1980s. Our attorneys also have provided counsel on many of the major transactions that have occurred over that time.

Our clients include the nation’s leading mobile carriers and wireless broadband providers, major wireless trade associations, manufacturers of network and consumer equipment, satellite providers, tower companies, paging providers, and many others with interests in wireless. We represent clients large and small whose interests span almost every spectrum band allocated for commercial wireless use, as well as the unlicensed bands.

Many Wilkinson Barker attorneys are former Federal Communications Commission officials who developed the current rules governing wireless services, making us uniquely well positioned to help clients navigate the ever-changing regulatory and business landscape. We represent clients at the FCC and other government agencies including the Department of Commerce (NTIA) and the Federal Trade Commission on a wide range of spectrum policy and wireless regulatory matters. From spectrum allocations, service and technical rulemakings, and spectrum access through auctions and leasing to regulatory matters such as privacy, E911, disabilities access, and equipment authorizations, we have extensive experience in helping clients develop their business strategies and comply with regulatory requirements. We also handle enforcement and litigation matters for clients who are faced with such threats.

Our clients regularly ask our corporate and transactional team to assist in structuring new entities and in negotiating, obtaining required approvals for, and closing transactions such as mergers and acquisitions, corporate reorganizations, financings, and spectrum sales and leases.
